This position is that of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Victim Advocacy (VA) Support Specialist. The SAPR VA Support Specialist works under the program oversight of the installation Sexual Assault Response Coordinator for sexual assault cases and is supervised by Installation SARC. The purpose of this position is to serves as the primary initial point of contact for victims of sexual assault. The incumbent will work closely with the installation Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) in their Area of Responsibility (AOR) to ensure comprehensive care for victims throughout their care process. Incumbent will provide 24/7 support for victims’ immediate needs. Incumbent will assess all safety concerns and will provide victims information on resources that are available. Will serve as an advocate for the expressed interests of victims with all intervening agencies to also include law enforcement, chaplains, medical, and legal. Incumbent will brief the ARC to apprise them of SAPR service provision. The SAPR VA Support Specialist is required to complete in-person DoD Sexual Assault Advocate Credentialing Program SAPR Victim Advocate training. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of a four year degree in behavioral health, social science, or criminal justice and two years of experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral health or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above. Must have the analytical ability and skill in interpersonal relationships. The incumbent must have knowledge of the dynamics of sexual assault and victim advocacy and care. Knowledge of the military, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Navy (DoN), and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program is preferred. The incumbent must have the ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for victims. Ability to develop trusting helping relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, religious,
and socioeconomic backgrounds. The incumbent must have the ability to intervene in crisis situations, using sounds professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense. The incumbent must have the ability to work cooperatively with military and civilian medical, social service, law enforcement and legal personnel on behalf of victims. The incumbent must be skilled in oral and written communications. The incumbent must have the demonstrated ability to provide effective trainings and briefings, as he/she might be requested to provide services as a support to the SARC.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position has been designated Non-Critical sensitive. As a position of trust and ITII position, employment is conditional on the successful competition of an Access National Agency Check (ANACI). Participation in direct deposit upon employment is required.
